Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Forschungspraktikant (studienbegleitend)

We are seeking a motivated 1st or 2nd year student at the University of Basel to serve as a Project Youth Leader for the Class Chat Insights Project.

About the Project

Class chats, an increasingly central part of student life, can strengthen friendships and create community, while also contributing to stress, conflict, and social pressures. Yet adults often have limited understanding of how young people experience these spaces. The Class Chat Insights Project aims to better understand what happens in class chats in secondary schools across Basel and how that impacts digital well-being.

About

the Role

As the Project Youth Leader, you will help shape and design the project approach and plan. You will lead the project implementation and ensure youth voice remains central, in all project activities, through the final communication of findings.

The Project Research Lead, Dr. Eva Unternährer, at the UPK Basel will be your supervising psychologist, and Liz Lian, founder of Middle Road, a non‑profit dedicated to youth‑led digital safety, will be your community mentor and advisor. They will guide you on methods, ethics, and implementation, as well as introduce you to relevant experts and networks. This is a paid internship (CHF 775 per month at 50%).

Who

We Are Looking For
  • Are currently in their 1st or 2nd year at the University of Basel
  • Are interested in youth digital well‑being, education, psychology, and/or social impact
  • Bring curiosity, a collaborative spirit and motivation to lead
  • Are bilingual in German and English
  • Want to contribute to meaningful, youth‑centered research
  • Available to start by 3 August and can commit to 30-50% for at least 4 months
How to Apply

Interested students should email Eva Unternaehrer (eva.unternaehrer) with a CV and a written motivation letter or video equivalent. Applications should be sent by Friday, 19 June 2026.
