Professorship in Classical Archaeology (open rank)

Professorship in Classical Archaeology is to be filled at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel beginning on February 1, 2027, or by appointment with the successful applicant. Depending on the qualifications of the person to be appointed, the appointment will be made at the level of Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), Associate Professor or Full Professor.

- Represent Classical Archaeology with a forward‑looking research profile and comprehensively cover the teaching requirements in Classical Archaeology, offering teaching at the level of BA, MA and doctoral studies.
- Contribute to the development of the integrated degree programme of the Department of Ancient Civilisations as well as to interdisciplinary cooperations, both in teaching and research, with other disciplines at the Department.
- Coordinate the course curriculum in Classical Archaeology with the other Professorships in the Department of Ancient Civilizations as well as the Professorship for Integrative Prehistory and Archaeological Science (Integrative Prähistorische und Naturwissenschaftliche Archäologie, IPNA) in the Department of Environmental Sciences.
- Excellent doctorate and an excellent record in research and publications, according to academic age.
- Research focus compatible with the research profile of the Department of Ancient Civilisations.
- Teaching experience and keen to teach undergraduate and doctoral students in innovative and practice‑oriented formats, including the use of digital tools.
- Track record in securing third‑party funding.
- Ability to work in a team and willingness to contribute to university self‑governance.
- Modern and family‑friendly working conditions in the center of Basel as well as cooperation with highly motivated scholars.
