Join Clariant as certified Tax Advisor and help shape our global Tax Team.

As Head of Indirect Tax & Customs you will be leading the strategic direction and compliance for indirect tax & customs globally, ensuring regulatory adherence while optimizing processes and business structures. You will be part of the Global Tax Team located in Pratteln, Switzerland.

Responsibilities
  • Establish & enhance an internal control framework for VAT / GST / SUT and customs compliance.
  • Act as Business Partner & advise Senior Leadership on indirect tax & customs implications of business models (e.g., review major contracts and business initiatives from an indirect tax & customs perspective such as JV structures, M&A, ERP rollouts and supply chain transformation).
  • Define governance standards and ensure consistency across regions.
  • Optimize business activities of all entities and implement indirect tax & customs efficient structures.
Compliance &

Risk Management:
  • Ensure full compliance with indirect tax laws and customs regulations in all operating countries.
  • Monitor global regulatory developments and lead the implementation of required changes.
  • Lead internal audits and manage external tax audits and customs inspections.
  • Engage with internal Global Business Services and Tax Compliance Outsourcing ensuring a standardized, consistent, and compliant tax approach on Indirect Tax & Customs.
Process Optimization & Digitalization:
  • Evaluate, standardize and streamline end2end processes such as Order2

    Cash, Purchase2

    Pay and Import/ Export.
  • Lead implementation of tax tools (e.g. VAT determination engine, customs software) and ERP improvements.
  • Support transformation into the digital age, enhancing e2e processes fostering collaboration with other departments ensuring compliance.
  • Strengthen cross-functional process integration between Tax, Finance, Logistics, Supply Chain, and IT.
Project & Stakeholder Management:
  • Lead global projects related to VAT, customs and supply chain transformation.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations and external advisors.
  • Represent Clariant’s Indirect Tax & Customs interests in business associations and working groups.
Requirements
  • Certified Tax Advisor, Certified Specialist for Customs & excise Duties.
  • 10+ years of extensive experience in international indirect tax & customs ideally within a multinational environment, proven track record with mentioned responsibilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of VAT/GST/SUT and other indirect taxes, EU & international customs law.
  • Solid knowledge of Supply Chain & Import/Export processes.
  • Strong experience with ERP Systems and tax/customs technologies.
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into economic impact.
  • Reliable, motivated, detail-oriented and self-driven personality.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Interested in digitalization, automation & Project Management.
