Global CMO Clinical Packaging Site Manager 80-100%
Background:
This role is responsible for the operational and strategic management of clinical drug labeling, packaging, and device assembly outsourced to a global network of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). Operating within a strictly regulated GxP/GMP environment, the position serves as the central operational link between internal supply chain functions, procurement, and external manufacturing partners.
The core focus encompasses end-to-end CMO project execution—from initial onboarding, RFPs, and SOW contracting to budget ownership, SAP order processing, and active S&OP representation. The goal is to ensure reliable, high-quality, and cost-effective clinical supply delivery to meet global trial timelines.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- CMO Site Management:
Organize and oversee clinical drug labeling, packaging, and device assembly production outsourced to a global network of CMOs. - Project & Delivery Oversight:
Proactively manage CMO project onboarding, communications, timelines, and delivery performance for outsourced clinical packaging orders to meet supply chain needs while adhering to cost and quality standards. - Procurement & Contracting:
Partner with Procurement and key stakeholders to drive Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Statements of Work (SOWs), negotiate supply agreements, and select vendors. - Strategy & Budgeting:
Support leadership in defining supply strategies for non-standard supply chains. Own the budgeting process and submission for CMO project variable costs. - Process Ownership & Governance:
Establish team scope and division of responsibilities with upstream functions (e.g., device CMO team). Define, track, and report CMO team KPIs. - S&OP Representation:
Actively drive network supply outcomes and represent the CMO function in the CD&OP process. - Managing operational orders, and master data in SAP
- Supplier Relationship Management (SRM):
Lead SRM activities and partner with CMOs to ensure long-term capability and capacity for predictable delivery. - Financial & Order Execution:
Create and maintain Purchase Orders in the purchasing system, review/approve CMO invoices, and execute pre- and post-production order management in the ERP system. - Continuous Improvement:
Identify and champion process improvement opportunities, applying technical expertise to resolve complex supply chain issues. Serve as an SME/primary contact for key strategic initiatives.
Must Haves:
- Degree: BA/BS degree, preferably in a technical, business, or supply chain discipline. Master’s degree is a plus
- Work Experience:
8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, supply chain management, or manufacturing. - Domain Knowledge:
Strong preference for experience in clinical drug manufacturing, clinical supply chain, or contract manufacturing management. - GMP
Experience:
Required. - IT / Tool
Skills:
Proficient knowledge and hands-on experience with SAP or equivalent ERP systems. - Language
Skills:
Excellent written and spoken English (required); basic German skills are beneficial. - Shift Flexibility:
Flexibility to adapt to global working hours (e.g., starting as early as 7:00 AM for SSF teams or working until 6:00 PM for Switzerland-based teams). - Solid understanding of pharma supply chains, contract manufacturing, and clinical operations.
- Proven project planning, project management, and resource management skills.
- Strong leadership experience in taking projects from initiation through final delivery.
- High cultural awareness and social competence for global stakeholder management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system-oriented skills with high attention to detail.
- High integrity and the ability to operate independently with minimal direction.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and presentation skills.
Nice to Have:
- Professional certifications: APICS, SCOR, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Process/Management training: PMP, Operational Excellence, Six Sigma, or Lean methodologies.
