Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly qualified, self‑motivated intern to accelerate research toward new applications, core methodologies and technologies in computing systems architecture with a focus on technologies for sustainability at HPE Labs. The internship will be based in Basel (CH), Grenoble (FR), or Bristol (UK). Topics include Data Movement Scheduling in the Maestro middleware, multi‑GPU heterogeneous memory management in the Mamba memory layer abstraction library, secure AI/HPC infrastructure and usage (confidential computing and automated SELinux configuration of compute nodes), and digital twins of large compute infrastructures in the scope of the Exadigit initiative.

Responsibilities

Interns will contribute from the early stage of ideation through design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer, working closely with HPE Labs research teams and external partners. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and influence both internally and externally, balancing significant technical and scientific contributions with the ability to bring solutions to practice that address customer and partner needs.

Education and Experience
  • At least a

    B.Sc. equivalent in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematical discipline, and currently pursuing or recently completed an MS/PhD.
  • Development experience in compiled languages such as C, C++ or Fortran, and experience with interpreted environments such as Python.
  • Parallel programming experience, with programming models such as OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, OpenACC, HIP, PGAS languages, etc.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to develop a rapid understanding of select problems and opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and literature.
  • Excellent research and development skills.
  • Ability to innovate, make research contributions, and bring ideas to reality in compelling ways.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong systems programming and software engineering skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research as shown, for example, by papers published in top‑tier conferences or journals.
Personal Skills
  • Strong team spirit but capable of independence.
  • Ability to represent oneself and the team both inside and outside the company.
  • A knack for finding fun in the complexity and difficulty of problem solving.
