Position
In the Institute of Human Biology (IHB), embedded within Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Division, we focus on accelerating the development of transformative medicines by creating novel human model systems that resemble human physiology and disease.
OpportunityWe are building next‑generation human kidney models by tackling a central unsolved problem: how to generate organotypic, vascularized kidney organoids that show enhanced maturation.
Responsibilities- Drive the development of vascularized iPSC‑derived kidney organoids, with a focus on tissue specification and maturation.
- Use single‑cell genomics to dissect endothelial specification, nephron maturation, and cell–cell communication.
- Work closely with bioengineers to integrate biology into perfusable, next‑generation culture systems.
- Translate biological insights into functional, predictive models relevant for human kidney safety.
- PhD in a relevant field with a strong track record in iPSC‑derived 3D tissue models or organoids; doctoral studies completed within the last four years.
- Experience generating and analysing single‑cell transcriptomic data and translating complex datasets into biological insight.
- Scientifically ambitious, able to drive new concepts rather than follow established protocols.
- Strong background in developmental biology, with expertise in kidney, vascular, or related organ systems preferred.
Embedded in a highly interdisciplinary ecosystem at IHB, you will work with leading experts in bioengineering, stem cell biology, and computational analysis, and closely connect to Roche’s drug discovery and safety teams.
Application Process- Current CV, including a full list of peer‑reviewed publications.
- Professional references: contact details for two references who can attest to your scientific expertise and professional character.
- Ph.D. documentation: official diploma or certificate confirming your degree.
- Timeline & Availability: start date 1‑st September 2026.
The initial duration is 2 years, with the potential for extension.
