Position:
Junior Investigative Toxicology Scientist – Pathology and Applied Safety Science, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED).
The Junior Investigative Toxicology Scientist will design, validate, and implement non‑clinical assays for translational safety assessment. The role focuses on wet‑lab work, leveraging in‑vitro toxicology models and state‑of‑the‑art analytical methods to predict toxicity liabilities of early drug series.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, optimise and perform in‑vitro toxicology assays, including advanced 2D and 3D human cell models, to support translational safety assessment.
- Drive proficiency in analytical methods such as high‑content screening, confocal imaging and next‑generation sequencing; build, deploy and maintain automated image‑analysis pipelines.
- Conduct rigorous data analysis, evaluate procedures and report study data within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring traceability and compliance.
- Maintain strict operational compliance with SOPs, work instructions and safety, health and environmental (SHE) regulations.
- Coordinate matrix collaboration and resource optimisation, engaging cross‑functional teams (digital pathology, bioinformatics, digital engineering) to align laboratory work with project milestones.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and technology platforms, assessing and integrating next‑generation laboratory methodologies.
- Communicate findings clearly to project teams, toxicologists and portfolio stakeholders, delivering concise and actionable interpretations.
- Master’s and PhD in an immunology‑related field with a specialization in modelling tissue‑relevant human immunology in‑vitro.
- Minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience in an academic laboratory or pharmaceutical environment, with peer‑reviewed publications.
- Sound understanding of 2D and 3D in‑vitro model development (organoids, organs‑on‑chips, immune‑competent co‑cultures).
- High proficiency in high‑content imaging, confocal imaging and transcriptomics technologies (scRNA‑seq, spatial transcriptomics).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and strong interpersonal and team collaboration abilities.
