Position & Opportunity
In Roche’s PTD Biologics Pharmaceutical Development (PTDP) team, we develop sterile dosage forms of biotechnologically engineered molecules, including gene therapies. We invite you to join our team in Basel to support formulation development of novel gene therapies, assist in laboratory protocols, perform advanced analytics, and set up and run a cell‑based functional assay.
Internship Responsibilities- Work safely in a BSL‑2 laboratory, handling mammalian cells and recombinant adeno‑associated viral vectors (rAAVs).
- Carry out day‑to‑day cell‑culture activities.
- Establish a cell‑based assay to assess the stability of rAAV formulations.
- Learn and perform relevant analytics, such as dd/qPCR, flow cytometry, HPLC, DLS, and related preparatory procedures (e.g. RNA isolation).
- Plan studies in line with project timelines, prepare protocols, perform experiments, and record, analyse, and present data to local and broader teams.
- Engage in departmental activities related to innovative formulations, processes, and technologies.
- Currently enrolled at a university in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biology or a related field, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; or have completed studies within the past 12 months.
- Cell culture experience and independent lab work (e.g., on a research project) is required.
- Experience with molecular and/or biophysical analytical methods used in gene‑therapy formulation development is desirable.
- Efficient time management, planning, and record‑keeping skills; experience with electronic lab books is desirable.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization using MS Excel, Google Sheets, Graph Pad Prism, R, JMP, or similar software is an advantage.
- Curiosity, adaptability, willingness to learn, collaborative spirit, and openness to different working styles.
- Ability to work independently on small projects and support ongoing projects.
- Skills to build technical documentation, present results in internal meetings, and understand industrial requirements.
Preferred start date:
