We are currently recruiting for a Facilities & Health & Safety Manager on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business based in Basildon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety and Facilities professional who enjoys a hands-on, practical role and is comfortable taking ownership of site compliance, facilities and workplace safety within an SME environment.

Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the business maintains a safe, compliant and well-managed working environment across its workshop and office facilities.

The role will suit someone who can work autonomously, identify areas for improvement and put practical solutions in place without the need for a large support function.

• Take ownership of day-to-day Health & Safety compliance across the business.
• Develop, implement and maintain H&S policies, procedures and systems in line with current UK legislation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards, including COSHH, PUWER, manual handling and HSE requirements

• Conduct, review and maintain risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate H&S records, documentation and compliance registers.
• Monitor safe working practices across the workshop and office environment.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in workplace safety.

• Take responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of the site, workshop and office facilities
  .
• Ensure buildings, infrastructure, utilities and essential services are maintained effectively.
• Manage external contractors and service providers, including maintenance, cleaning and waste management.
• Plan and coordinate preventative maintenance programmes.
• Ensure statutory inspections and servicing are completed within required timescales.
• Oversee fire safety arrangements, emergency systems and associated compliance requirements.
• Liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

• Develop and deliver appropriate H&S inductions, training and refresher sessions

• Ensure employees understand their responsibilities and follow safe working practices.
• Support managers in embedding a positive Health & Safety culture.
• Provide practical advice and guidance to employees and managers on workplace safety matters.

• Carry out regular workplace inspections and internal H&S audits.
• Maintain and update compliance documentation and registers.
• Ensure relevant equipment inspections, PPE requirements, fire safety checks and other statutory obligations are monitored.
• Act as a key point of contact for external bodies, auditors, insurers and regulatory inspections where required.
• Keep up to date with relevant changes to legislation and ensure appropriate action is taken.
• Proven experience in a Health & Safety, Facilities or combined H&S/Facilities role
  .
• Experience with in an engineering, manufacturing, workshop or industrial environment would be highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
• Practical experience undertaking risk assessments and implementing H&S systems and procedures
  .
• Experience managing contractors, suppliers and site facilities.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
