Sports Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship – Phoenix Primary

Completion of the Level 3 qualification leads to a permanent role within the sector. As an apprentice, you will work in partnership with class and set teachers to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice and school policies. Your work will be both class‑based (supporting Maths and English sets and some foundation subjects) and in Games/PE and various sport‑based after‑school clubs and events.

Ideal candidates have a strong sports background, either through coaching/instructing or have recently completed a sports‑related course at college and wish to deepen their knowledge.

  • Work alongside children and teachers to promote individual children’s learning and well‑being.
  • Ensure clarity of the School Improvement Plan and its impact on the school and its team.
  • Collaborate with class/set teachers on curriculum planning, assessment and classroom organisation.
  • Participate in staff training and meetings as part of professional and school development.
  • Act as a key team member, supporting the progress of individual children and groups.
  • Support identified pupils and groups within lessons.
  • Lead and support after‑school clubs that receive positive feedback from pupils, parents and the wider community.
  • Support pupils with activities that develop literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Support ICT use in the classroom and develop pupil competence and independence.
  • Promote your clubs across the wider community to increase participation.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the clubs you support or lead and stay updated on relevant curriculum developments.

No classroom or college days. Remote learning.

Monday – Friday (shifts TBC).
