Interim Management Accountant

At Rutherford Briant, we’re partnering with a growing SME business based in Basildon. As the business continues to scale, they are looking to appoint a Management Accountant to take ownership of day‑to‑day finance, provide commercial insight, and support informed decision‑making across the business.

This is a hands‑on role, ideal for a Management Accountant who enjoys working in a fast‑paced SME environment and being close to operations.

• Produce monthly management accounts with clear commentary and variance analysis
• Own the month‑end close process, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and cashflow projections, supporting business planning
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure accuracy across the ledger
• Partner closely with directors and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight
• Analyse performance, margins and costs to support profitability and growth
• Assist with statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and advisors
• Support process improvements as the business continues to develop its finance function

• Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar role within an SME environment
• Strong understanding of management accounting and end‑to‑end month‑end processes
• Solid balance sheet knowledge and confidence owning reconciliations
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data
• A proactive, adaptable mindset with the confidence to work autonomously
• Excellent communication skills, comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders
• Part‑qualified, fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or qualified by experience
