Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) – Full-Time

Basildon, Essex
£28,000 – £30,000 DOE | Permanent

A well-established, modern small animal veterinary practice in Basildon, Essex is seeking an RVN to join its supportive, close-knit nursing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinary nurse looking to work in a practice that values teamwork, professional development, and high clinical standards.

Working Pattern
  • 8.5-hour shifts between 07:30 and 19:30
  • Monday to Friday
  • Saturday rota with TOIL for any weekend worked
  • 30-minute unpaid break per shift
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 DOE
  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave

About the Practice

This large, spacious veterinary practice offers a positive, family-style working environment where kindness, empathy, and collaboration are central to daily life. The nursing team is well resourced, allowing nurses to fully utilise their skills and deliver gold‑standard patient care.

The practice is well equipped and has a planned refurbishment scheduled for next year.

  • Five consult rooms
  • Two theatres
  • Dedicated dental suite with X-ray
  • X-ray room
  • Large cat ward
  • Kennels and recovery area
The Role

The successful Registered Veterinary Nurse will be clinically driven, compassionate, and confident (or keen to develop) in all aspects of veterinary nursing. Nurses are actively supported to work to the full scope of their qualification, including Schedule 3 procedures
, once trained and competent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inpatient care and patient monitoring (TPRs, medications, fluid therapy)
  • Surgical nursing and anaesthetic monitoring
  • Theatre preparation and instrument sterilisation
  • Schedule 3 procedures, including suturing and dental scaling (training provided)
  • Diagnostic support including blood sampling, urinalysis, laboratory work, X-rays and ultrasound
  • Nurse clinics and preventative healthcare
  • Client communication, including admissions and discharges
  • Supporting student nurses and new team members
