Position: SEMH Teacher (SEN)

SEN Teacher – Secondary SEMH Setting

A specialist secondary setting is seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teacher to join its team, working with young people aged 11–16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The pupils

Students in this setting often have a history of disrupted education and may present with challenging behaviour, difficulties with emotional regulation, and additional needs linked to trauma, anxiety, ADHD or autism. Class sizes are small, and pupils require high levels of structure, consistency and strong, positive relationships to support engagement and progress.

The role

The successful candidate will deliver a broad, adapted curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, tailored to meet individual learning needs.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons to pupils with SEMH and additional SEN
  • Supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
  • Managing and responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour using trauma-informed and restorative approaches
  • Building trusting relationships that promote confidence, self-regulation and readiness to learn
  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists and senior leaders to implement individual education and behaviour plans
  • Monitoring progress and contributing to reviews, assessments and multi-disciplinary meetings
Working pattern and pay
  • Monday to Friday, full-time
  • Paid to scale, in line with teacher pay and conditions

This role would suit a reflective, patient and resilient teacher who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people. Experience with in SEMH, SEN or alternative provision is desirable, though applications are welcomed from teachers with a strong commitment to inclusive practice and behaviour support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
