Visual Impairment Teaching Assistant (VI TA)

Full-Time Term-Time Only Grade C Pay Primary School - BasingstokeStart: ASAP

Are you passionate about making education accessible for every child? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Visual Impairment Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Basingstoke. This full-time role is ideal for someone who is committed to supporting children with additional needs and helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

? About the Role

As a Visual Impairment TA, you will play a vital role in enabling a pupil with visual impairment to fully access the curriculum and daily school life. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and specialist services to provide high-quality, personalised support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with visual impairment
  • Adapting learning resources (e.g., enlarged print, tactile materials)
  • Assisting with mobility, orientation, and independence around school
  • Supporting the use of assistive technology or visual equipment
  • Collaborating with teachers, the Inclusion Team, and external professionals
  • Assisting with assessment, documentation, and progress monitoring
  • Promoting confidence, resilience, and independence

  • Is patient, nurturing, and committed to inclusive education
  • Has experience working with children or within SEN (VI experience desirable but not essential)
  • Is eager to learn strategies specific to visual impairment
  • Communicates well and works effectively within a team
  • Brings positivity, initiative, and a solution-focused approach
