SEND Learning Support Guide

Location: Basingstoke
Position: SEND Learning Support Guide
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full-time, Term-time
Pay: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
Contract: Long-term / ongoing

Role

We are partnering with a welcoming school in Basingstoke to recruit a SEND Learning Support Guide. This long-term role is ideal for someone who is patient, nurturing, and passionate about supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. You'll provide 1:1 support and small-group interventions, helping learners engage with their education, build confidence, and develop independence.

You'll work closely with teachers, support staff, and the SENCO to implement personalised strategies and SEND plans, ensuring each pupil feels supported and able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This role is perfect for experienced SEND support staff, graduates, or anyone looking to build a career in education while making a meaningful difference in children's lives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day 1:1 support for pupils with SEND

  • Assist or lead small-group interventions to develop core skills

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and engagement

  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs

  • Offer encouragement, reassurance, and consistency throughout the school day

  • Follow personalised SEND strategies and plans

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and support teams

Candidate
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication needs

  • Patient, empathetic, and confident in working with diverse learners

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Able to support both structured learning and social/emotional development

  • Positive role model with a passion for inclusive education

  • Graduates in psychology, childhood studies, education, or health & social care are encouraged to apply

Requirements
  • Experience supporting SEND or young people preferred

  • Up-to-date safeguarding training (can be provided)

  • Knowledge of behaviour support strategies beneficial

Eligibility:

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Two professional references
