Position: Maths Teacher (SEMH)

Maths Teacher – Secondary PRU Setting

A specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) is seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join its team, supporting young people aged 11–16 who are unable to access mainstream education.

The pupils

Students attending this provision often have complex needs, including SEMH
, unmet special educational needs, and experiences of trauma or disrupted education. Many pupils display challenging behaviour
, difficulties with emotional regulation, low self-esteem and gaps in learning, particularly in core subjects such as Maths. Small class sizes and high staff support enable a highly personalised approach to learning.

The role

The Maths Teacher will be responsible for delivering Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting teaching to meet a wide range of abilities and starting points. The role includes:

  • Planning and teaching engaging, accessible Maths lessons that rebuild confidence and skills
  • Differentiating effectively to meet individual academic and emotional needs
  • Managing and responding positively to challenging behaviour using consistent, trauma‑informed strategies
  • Building strong, trusting relationships to re‑engage pupils with learning
  • Working closely with support staff, pastoral teams and senior leaders to support reintegration, progress and positive outcomes
  • Monitoring progress and contributing to assessments, reviews and individual learning plans
Working pattern and pay
  • Monday to Friday, full‑time
  • Paid to scale, in line with teacher pay and conditions

This role is well suited to a Maths Teacher who is calm, flexible and passionate about making a difference for vulnerable young people. Experience with in a PRU, SEMH or alternative provision is desirable, but teachers with strong behaviour management skills and a commitment to inclusive education are encouraged to apply.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
