Are you an SEN teacher looking for flexible work, variety, or a better work‑life balance? Primary and secondary SEN schools and specialist provisions across Basingstoke and the surrounding areas are welcoming enthusiastic and adaptable supply teachers from January onwards.

Whether you are looking for occasional day‑to‑day cover, short‑term placements, or a longer‑term supply role with greater consistency, there are opportunities to suit your availability and preferences. These schools are supportive, well‑resourced environments that value calm, structured teaching and appreciate the positive impact supply teachers make.

In these SEN settings, you may support pupils who:

  • Have autism spectrum conditions with communication or sensory differences
  • Experience moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Have speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN)
  • Need support with social interaction and understanding social cues
  • Have cognitive delays affecting processing and memory
  • Experience sensory overload or benefit from structured regulation strategies
  • Feel anxious around change, transitions, or unfamiliar staff

Consistency, reassurance, and clear routines play a key role in helping pupils feel settled and ready to learn.

As an SEN Supply Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver pre‑planned lessons and adapt activities to meet individual needs
  • Follow established routines to maintain a calm and predictable environment
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and follow guidance from SENCOs and class teachers
  • Use visual supports, communication systems, structured teaching approaches, and sensory strategies
  • Build positive relationships quickly to support engagement and behaviour
  • Support personal care routines where required
  • Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and reporting procedures

For longer‑term placements, responsibilities may include planning and assessment, with pay in line with the Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS).

  • Start: January onwards
  • Work Type: Day‑to‑day supply, short‑term cover, and long‑term roles
  • Availability: Full‑time or part‑time
  • Term‑time only
  • Pay: Competitive daily rates, with pay‑to‑scale (MPS/UPS) for long‑term bookings
  • CPD: Access to training in autism, sensory regulation, and communication systems
  • Location: Basingstoke and surrounding areas (including Chineham, Hook, Tadley, and Whitchurch)

This role is well suited to:

  • Qualified teachers (QTS/QTLS), including ECTs
  • Teachers with experience in SEN, autism, MLD/SLD, or complex needs
  • Confident supply teachers who enjoy variety and new environments
  • Mainstream teachers interested in gaining SEN experience
  • Patient, creative, and flexible educators with a strong child‑centred approach
  • QTS or QTLS
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
  • Right to work in the UK

To apply, please submit your CV. Suitable candidates will be contacted to discuss the range of SEN supply opportunities available across Basingstoke for January and the spring term.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ's on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
