Job Summary

  • Role: Teaching Assistant (SEMH Support)
  • Location: Basingstoke
  • Setting: Short Stay SEMH Provision (Ages 11 to 16)
  • Start Date: September
  • Pay: £14.25 per hour (inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay)
About the Provision

This specialist short‑stay provision supports students aged 11 to 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who are currently unable to access mainstream education. Placements are short‑term and focused on stabilisation, re‑engagement and successful transitions back into school. The environment is structured, nurturing, with small class sizes, clear routines and a strong focus on consistency and positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students 1:1 and in small groups
  • Help manage behaviour using calm, consistent strategies
  • Support emotional regulation and engagement in learning
  • Provide support during lessons, transitions and breaks
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Maintain a safe, structured and supportive environment
Qualifications and Experience

Experience working with young people in education, care or similar settings.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Ability to set clear boundaries while remaining empathetic
  • Full‑time availability from September
  • Full‑time role starting in September
  • SEMH experience is beneficial but not essential
Other Requirements
  • Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Right to work in the UK
