Teaching Assistant - Primary & Secondary Special Educational Needs (SEN)

We are seeking to recruit a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN provision from September. This is a full-time, term‑time‑only position (Monday to Friday), supporting pupils across primary and secondary age groups with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), moderate learning difficulties (MLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), speech and language needs, and other additional learning needs.

The role offers a pay rate equivalent to £14.25 per hour, with opportunities to take on increased responsibility and progress to a higher rate of pay. There is also the potential for a permanent appointment for the right candidate following a successful initial placement.

This is a rewarding and varied role where you will support pupils to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals within a nurturing and inclusive environment. Working closely with teachers and the wider support team, you will help create positive learning experiences tailored to each pupil's needs.

• Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
• Providing one‑to‑one and small group support to reinforce learning and encourage independence.
• Adapting classroom activities and resources to meet individual learning needs.
• Supporting pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.
• Encouraging the development of independence, confidence, and life skills.
• Assisting pupils with transitions, routines, and structured activities throughout the school day.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them reach their full potential.
• Adapting learning activities to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets where appropriate.
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider school team to support pupil progress.
• Support teaching and learning within the classroom.

• Experience working with children or young people in a school, care, nursery, youth work, or similar setting.
• An interest in, or experience supporting, pupils with Autism and additional learning needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential.
• All applicants must hold a Child Workforce DBS registered with the Update Service or be willing to obtain one prior to commencing employment.
