This is a key appointment within a fast‑growing, employee‑owned business known for precision engineering, technical excellence, and exceptional client retention.

The Basingstoke office plays a central role in supporting life sciences, pharmaceuticals, quantum technologies, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing clients across the region. The successful candidate will join a highly skilled team delivering turnkey design, build, validation, and maintenance solutions for mission‑critical environments.

The business is employee‑owned, fostering long‑term commitment, collaboration, and a culture of quality. With a 90% repeat‑business rate and a rapidly expanding national footprint, recognised as a leader in the controlled‑environment sector.

The Role

The Mechanical Project Manager will take ownership of mechanical packages across a range of complex, regulated projects. You'll manage delivery from early design coordination through procurement, installation, commissioning, validation support, and final handover.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in technically demanding environments, enjoys multidisciplinary coordination, and understands the importance of compliance, precision, and controlled‑environment performance.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

Lead mechanical project delivery across clean rooms, laboratories, containment suites, and specialist manufacturing spaces.
Manage full lifecycle activities: design coordination, procurement, installation, commissioning, and validation support.
Ensure mechanical systems meet strict performance criteria including airflow, pressure regimes, temperature, humidity, and contamination control.
Conduct regular site inspections and proactively resolve technical issues.

Technical & Compliance Oversight

Work closely with design engineers to ensure mechanical solutions meet regulatory, client, and performance specifications.
Support validation teams with documentation, testing readiness, and compliance requirements.
Maintain rigorous quality‑control processes throughout the project lifecycle.

Commercial & Financial Management

Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans.
Oversee procurement of specialist equipment, materials, and subcontractor packages.
Manage variations, valuations, and final accounts with accuracy and transparency.

Stakeholder & Team Coordination

Lead mechanical engineers, specialist subcontractors, and site teams.
Maintain strong communication with clients, consultants, and internal project leads.
Represent at progress meetings, technical reviews, and client presentations.

Candidate Profile

Essential

Proven experience delivering mechanical building‑services projects, ideally within clean rooms, laboratories, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated environments.
Strong understanding of HVAC, air handling, ductwork, chilled water, heating, and specialist mechanical systems.
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
Excellent communication, leadership, and client‑facing skills.
Strong commercial awareness and experience managing budgets.
Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

Experience in high‑tech or controlled‑environment sectors (life sciences, semiconductors, medical devices, quantum technologies).
Knowledge of validation processes and compliance frameworks.
HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
SMSTS or equivalent health & safety certification.

What's on Offer

Competitive salary and benefits package.
Employee‑owned business with long‑term career progression.
Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge scientific and technological facilities.
A collaborative, technically excellent team environment.
Exposure to some of the UK's most advanced cleanroom and laboratory projects.
