Principal Transport Planner

The Senior / Principal Consultant will contribute to a wide range of development-related transport projects. The successful individual will bring between 2-8 years' experience in transport development planning, gained either within a consultancy or local authority.

This is a hands-on, delivery role that requires strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and project management skills. The postholder will be responsible for delivering projects to the highest technical quality, managing smaller and medium-sized assignments, and interfacing with clients on their projects.

Applicants should have:

• A good understanding of the principles of transport planning
• Good presentation and technical writing skills
• An ability to manage their own time to meet project deadlines
• An ability to work with other consultancies in multi-disciplinary teams on development projects including residential, commercial, retail, and leisure developments
• An ability to project manage smaller and medium sized projects
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience in preparing and reviewing technical documents, including:
  • Transport Assessments
  • Travel Plans
  • Environmental Statement Chapters
• Experience building, running and understanding the outputs of Junctions 10 and Lin Sig software
• Knowledge of highway design in MfS, DMRB, LTN1/20 and the requirements of Active Travel England and Healthy Streets
• An ability to pursue business development opportunities and build client relationships
• Supporting in negotiations, and attending meetings, with Highway Authorities
• Experience in preparing fee proposals for new projects and budget management
• Inspiring, developing, and mentoring less-experienced members of staff
