Job Description

AECOM’s

Maritime Engineer with a civil and structural academic background to support in a technical role across multiple UK and international projects.

You’ll join an established team with
over 200 years of combined experience
, delivering world-class maritime and coastal infrastructure. Our portfolio includes projects for local authorities, private developers, defence clients, and internal AECOM teams in the UK and overseas.

As a Graduate Maritime Engineer
, you will develop and learn the skills to undertake design, analysis and supervision of civil and structural works, in the marine and coastal environment. Typical projects include the development, rehabilitation, and protection of port and harbour structures such as quay walls, jetties, piers, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, fendering systems, linkspan supports, and scour protection.

You’ll contribute to all stages of the project lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction support — ensuring solutions are safe, sustainable, and compliant with UK and international standards.

You will be working in a supportive team learning to deliver and be involved in:

  • Structural design and analysis of maritime and coastal structures using relevant design codes (BS, Eurocodes, PIANC, CIRIA, ICE guidance).
  • Using current computer software (including but not limited to ROBOT, GRLWEAP, WALLAP, TEDDS, PLAXIS 3D and others).
  • Developing concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for new build and refurbishment projects, including quay walls, jetties, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, linkspans, and related works.
  • Carrying out stability, bearing capacity, and durability assessments of marine structures under wave, current, and corrosion effects.
  • Designing and specifying fendering systems, mooring arrangements, and scour protection measures.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Conducting site inspections and structural condition surveys and prepare inspection reports.
  • Liaising effectively with clients, contractors, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborating with geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and coastal process engineers across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understand and learn compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and CDM Regulations.
  • Providing technical support during construction, review contractor submissions, and respond to site queries.
  • Contributing to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.

Come grow with us — and help design the future of resilient coastal and port infrastructure.
