Location: Basingstoke (3 days per week onsite)

Salary: Up to £80,000 (depending on experience) + car allowance + bonus

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Indirect Tax professional to join a large, complex organisation within a central Finance function. This role offers excellent exposure across multiple business areas and the chance to influence key commercial decisions through specialist VAT expertise.

The Role

You will take ownership of indirect tax compliance and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely submission of VAT returns while providing expert technical guidance to stakeholders across the business. Working closely with Finance and operational teams, you’ll develop a strong understanding of products and services to ensure correct VAT treatment and support business initiatives.

You will also play a key role in mentoring junior team members and deputising for senior leadership when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on all VAT matters across the business
  • Prepare and review quarterly VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Perform detailed analysis of transactional data
  • Manage reverse charge VAT, annual adjustments, and Capital Goods Scheme calculations
  • Review contracts and new product offerings for VAT implications
  • Support stakeholders with partial exemption and recovery rates
  • Handle HMRC queries and ensure ongoing compliance with legislation
  • Reconcile VAT balance sheets and identify process improvements
  • Provide technical insight on legislative and case law changes
About You
  • Strong experience in indirect tax, with a focus on VAT compliance
  • Solid understanding of reverse charge VAT, balance sheet reconciliations, and VAT reporting processes
  • Knowledge of partial exemption and/or Insurance Premium Tax is advantageous
  • Professionally qualified (CTA / ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent), or working towards
