Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Practitioner Psychologist

The closing date is 21 June 2026

We are looking for an enthusiastic practitioner psychologist interested in a personally rewarding and fulfilling role working with complex cases. You will be responsible for providing psychological support to service users and teams across the Acute Care pathway in Basingstoke. The service includes male and female wards, a 6‑bed MOD ward and a PICU.

We encourage applications from individuals looking for preceptorship from Band 7 to 8a and welcome applications from unqualified practitioners who are nearing completion of their training.

The Acute and Crisis Division comprises practitioner psychologists, psychological therapists and assistant psychologists, with expertise in a range of approaches (CBT, DBT, ACT, CFT and CAT). You will join a workforce committed to providing trauma‑informed care and creating a psychologically informed culture supporting the stabilisation of adults with acute mental health difficulties. We work with a range of presentations including psychosis, trauma and relational difficulties.

You will provide psychological assessment and brief 1:1 and group therapeutic interventions as well as indirect support such as offering consultation and training to staff in the team.

Our psychological provision uses Comprehend, Cope & Connect (CCC) as our structured clinical management approach. Training in CCC will be provided.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Krystina Jacobs, Consultant Clinical Psychologist:

Main duties of the job

You will work as an autonomous practitioner with your own clinical caseload, embedded within our clinical multi‑professional team and the psychological therapies team. You will provide psychological assessments and formulations, brief interventions, provide supervision, provide advice to colleagues, and contribute to the implementation of the Comprehend, Cope and Connect (CCC) approach. CCC is a therapeutic intervention which enables multi‑professional colleagues to offer psychologically‑informed support to adults with acute mental health difficulties.

Multi‑disciplinary team formulations are part of this post, which supports and enhances a psychologically‑informed culture across the wards, and subsequent collaborative care planning. There will be opportunities to utilise research skills to contribute to service development. You will be part of a cohesive team with a strong focus on quality improvement, co‑production, further training and career development, plus aligning with the core values of the Trust (compassion, accountability, respect, excellence).

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
