Sterile Services Supervisor

The Sterile Services Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision of the Sterile Services Department, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant decontamination of medical devices. The role provides operational leadership, supports and develops staff, and ensures adherence to national standards, policies and quality systems. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining service continuity, resolving issues promptly and supporting high standards of patient safety and customer service.
Mainduties of the job
Oversee the day‑to‑day running of the Sterile Services Department, supervising staff and managing workflow to ensure timely, safe and compliant decontamination of medical devices. Support and train team members, maintain equipment and records, and ensure adherence to national standards, health and safety and infection control policies. Act as a first point of contact for problem‑solving and help drive service improvements.
Person Specification- Flexibility to work shifts and provide cover as required.
- Formal qualification in sterile services or a related healthcare field.
- Minimum 2 years experience working in sterile services/decontamination or a similar healthcare environment.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within sterile services.
- Knowledge of decontamination processes, infection control and health & safety regulations.
- Ability to supervise, motivate and support staff, including training and mentoring.
- Good organisational and time‑management skills to manage workflow and meet service targets.
- Competence in maintaining accurate records, documentation and traceability systems.
- Effective communication skills with staff, clinical teams and management.
- Ability to problem‑solve and act independently to maintain service continuity.
- Knowledge of HTM 01-01 and other national decontamination standards.
- Experience with audits, quality assurance or process improvement initiatives.
