Clinical Coder

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding department at Hampshire Hospitals for an ACC qualified coder. The Clinical Coding team works to provide efficient, reliable, and effective service to the Trust by abstracting information from clinical documents and translating it into diagnostic and procedure codes.

• Manage the volume of uncoded activity in assigned specialties against agreed deadlines.
• Participate in coding audits and assist in the provision of high‑quality information required by the Trust in a timely and accurate manner.
• Support the Clinical Coding Department and Business Intelligence and Finance teams.
• Ensure compliance with national clinical coding standards, rules, and conventions.
• Maintain accurate clinically coded data across multiple specialties.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams and non‑health care individuals.

• ACC qualified.
• Experience coding a variety of specialties within an acute NHS organisation.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, including anatomical and physiological terms, coding procedures and conventions, covering all specialties in an NHS Acute Hospital environment.
• Graduate level knowledge (Science Biology preferably) or equivalent: GCSE Grade C or above in Science.
• Strong analytical and judgemental skills with the ability to handle complex cases.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to people at all levels.
• High level of time‑management and prioritisation skills, meeting challenging deadlines.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage competing demands and maintain concentration for prolonged periods.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and organisational abilities.
• Self‑motivated and adaptable to a flexible work environment.

Coders can work on site full time or adopt a hybrid approach, working part on site and part remotely.
