Consultant Psychiatrist
- Adult Neurodevelopmental Services (Autism Specialist)

Reports to: Clinical Director

Salary: Competitive

Location: Basingstoke
- Hybrid (with occasional travel to office as required)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Skylight Psychiatry is a CQC-registered independent healthcare provider delivering specialist neurodevelopmental assessment and treatment services across England.

We provide evidence-based, person-centred care for individuals with ADHD, Autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions through digitally enabled clinical pathways supported by multidisciplinary teams and robust clinical governance frameworks.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our clinical team and provide senior clinical leadership within our Adult Autism Service.

Role Purpose

The Consultant Psychiatrist is a senior clinical role responsible for delivering high-quality adult neurodevelopmental care and providing medical oversight within the service. The post holder will play a key role in supporting and developing our adult autism assessment pathway, providing specialist clinical expertise and contributing to the ongoing development of neurodevelopmental services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing senior clinical oversight for complex or escalated autism assessment cases within the pathway.
  • Conducting and supporting comprehensive assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in adults in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
  • Providing formal clinical supervision and oversight to Specialty Doctors and other non-consultant grade clinicians.
  • Leading and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical discussions.
  • Contributing to clinical governance activities, including audit, incident review and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting the ongoing development of autism assessment pathways and service delivery models.
  • Providing diagnostic formulation and clear recommendations for ongoing support and management.
  • Expected clinical activity includes conducting autism assessments, reviewing complex cases, alongside associated documentation, supervision, governance and service development activities.
Person Specification Essential
  • GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or Learning Disability Psychiatry.
  • Section 12 approval (or eligibility).
  • Demonstrable experience in the assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in adults.
  • Strong understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions and associated co-occurring mental health presentations.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management and clinical governance.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills and digital literacy.
Desirable
  • Experience working within specialist neurodevelopmental assessment services.
  • Experience contributing to service development or pathway design.
  • Understanding of CQC regulatory frameworks.
  • Leadership, medical management or quality improvement training.
  • Experience supporting autistic adults with complex presentations and co-occurring conditions.
