Trainee Gas Engineer

Salary: £28.2k per annum (increase to £31.3k upon successful completion of probationary period)

Once qualified, your earning potential increases with additionally paid standby & overtime.

We’re looking for exceptional Trainee Gas Engineers. No prior experience is required – we will provide all training, equipment and support. Your role will involve repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services to keep our customers safe and warm.

• Support senior engineers on site and learn daily through gas service and mains repair activities.
• Excavate and dig in public & private highways, lay and repair gas pipes in various outdoor environments while working safely as part of a team.
• Assist with essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year round, including standby and overtime for irregular hours.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring equipment is ready for safe and efficient work.

• Curious and eager to learn with a desire to develop skills continuously.
• Resilient, capable of bouncing back from challenges and learning from mistakes.
• Initiative owner who takes responsibility for the service we provide and seeks ways to improve.
• Calm and adaptable in public interaction environments.
• Comfortable working on rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights (24/7 service).
• Clean‑shaven, able to pass a face‑fit test and wear required dust masks and breathing apparatus.
• Holds a full, valid UK driver’s licence.
• Based within a commutable distance from the desired locations due to operational response times.
