Job Title:
Depot Manager.
Reports To:
Logistics Manager. Based At:
Basingstoke.
Working Hours:
40hrs Night shift 21:00 – 07:30. Salary: £42,500 per annum plus up to 10% performance related bonus, company discounts, and pension scheme.
Ideal for someone looking for the next stage in managerial development. This position suits Assistant Managers / Senior Team Leaders with logistics/distribution background. The candidate is hands‑on, manages overall depot performance, workplace organisation, annual budget and depot functionality, leading a team of drivers, stores staff, and team leaders.

- Engage with colleagues, keep morale high, understand improvements, motivate staff through coaching and mentoring, celebrate success.
- Organise and control induction and ongoing training of all employees with Learning & Development team.
- Maintain good operating standards using 5S disciplines.
- Manage depot profit and loss, keep distribution costs and overheads in line with budget.
- Fully explain processes, changes, developments to all staff via notice boards and meetings.
- Drive great culture and performance with KPIs.
- Deliver system and IT enhancements at local depot aligned to business IT strategy.
- Drive a proactive H&S leadership culture with Gemba Walks, safety audits and behavioural observations.
- Record and report all accidents and injuries to H&S team following guidelines.
- Conduct manual handling training before equipment use and sign off by management.
- Assess risk and ensure safe systems of work are in place and followed.
- Review key points using balanced scorecard: customer complaints, driver messages, driving scores, bottle returns, delivery issues/GPS coordinates, run efficiency, new business.
- Provide effective training and inductions, uphold standards of service excellence.
- Have regular conversations with staff, listen and drive change.
- Manage staff holidays responsibly without compromising operation.
- Record stock recon and controls accurately; rotate old stock to avoid waste.
- Ensure stores staff pick orders on time before driver arrival.
- Maintain safe movement of staff and vehicles without overcrowding.
- Maintain good housekeeping; report and action required works.
- Maintain cold chain: keep doors closed, product only leaves chill when loading permitted.
- Communicate with Transport team to ensure faults and repairs carried out promptly.
- Carry out full accident reporting processes (including third‑party details).
- Maintain high standards of vehicle hygiene.
- Keep fuel and Ad‑Blue logs accurate.
- Manage facility per H&S regulations and technical food safety standards.
- Dispose, scan or secure all paperwork per GDPR.
- Background in dairy, food or drinks distribution preferred.
- Leadership experience in night shift operation.
- Exposure to food safety audit standards such as BRC.
- IOSH certified.
- Excellent MS Office knowledge (Excel, Word).
