Role Description The Optical Consultant (Foundation) role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Basingstoke. In this role, the Optical Consultant will welcome and guide customers through their visit, from booking appointments to supporting them during eye examinations and helping them select suitable frames, lenses, and contact lenses. The role involves providing clear product information, explaining pricing and offers, and ensuring customers understand their options based on lifestyle, prescription, and budget.

Day-to-day tasks include maintaining store presentation standards, handling basic administrative duties, supporting dispensing activities under supervision, and working collaboratively with optometrists and colleagues to deliver a high-quality customer experience. The Optical Consultant will also follow company procedures and compliance requirements, contribute to sales targets, and take part in ongoing training to build optical product knowledge and customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to listen actively, build rapport, and explain products and services clearly.
• Sales and retail skills, including confidence in recommending suitable products, handling transactions, and working toward store targets.
• Teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside optometrists, optical assistants, and other store colleagues.
• Good organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to manage time, appointments, and store tasks in a busy environment.
• Comfort using point-of-sale systems and basic IT applications; numeracy skills for handling payments and offers accurately.
• Previous experience in retail, customer-facing roles, or healthcare environments is beneficial but not essential.
• Willingness to undertake training and development, including optical foundation learning and progression within Boots Opticians.
