Route Planner (Nights)

Our client based in Basingstoke is currently looking for a Route Planner to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis.

Overview

A Route Planner (nights) plays a key role in optimising the travel or transportation process by determining the best, most efficient routes for vehicles, goods, or passengers. The purpose of the role is to ensure that the journey or delivery is as fast, cost-effective, and safe as possible, while minimising fuel consumption, time, and other operational costs.

Shift Patterns and Pay Rates
  • £16.34 per hour
  • Sunday - Thursday 22:00 - 06:30

Responsibilities
  • Plan and optimise delivery routes using computer-based route planning systems.
  • Ensure vehicle utilisation remains within KPI targets to meet agreed service levels.
  • Produce analysis and recommendations to improve route plans and overall efficiency.
  • Add late/overnight orders, ensuring the correct vehicle is assigned and drops are sequenced correctly.
  • Coordinate daily van loading and support yard supervision to ensure vehicles are loaded safely, accurately and on time.
  • Book customer deliveries and manage scheduling requirements.
  • Pack, wrap and label pallets for courier dispatch when required.
  • Provide clear written daily handovers to the dispatch and warehouse teams.
  • Monitor driver route compliance and address issues promptly.
  • Ensure company vehicles are maintained to a high standard, including housekeeping and basic compliance checks.
  • Pick and pack orders accurately within the warehouse.
  • Load and unload vehicles (manual handling and forklift as required).
Skills and Attributes
  • Proven experience in route planning, distribution coordination and/or fleet management.
  • Strong understanding of deliveries across London and regional areas.
  • Confident using ePOD systems and related software.
  • Proactive, approachable and customer-focused.
  • Excellent communication skills with both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Flexible and willing to carry out additional duties as directed by the Dispatch Manager.
