Field Engineering Responsibilities
Closeout redlines, test audits, lessons learned, warranties, product submittals, and other related activities form the core of the role. The following tasks describe the day‑to‑day responsibilities.
- Redlines: Leads and superintendents oversee submitting changes to the scope of work. Redlines are completed and submitted to engineering, and Field Engineers verify infrastructure installation to design/specifications, finalizing redlines for closeout.
- Fiber: Use an internal tracker for ISP redlines. Update designs from IES customers to reflect changes and verify all fiber scope.
- Copper: The internal copper tracker contains all close‑out information. Field Engineers act as the point of contact, verify installations, and submit any required redlines.
- Network: When needed, Field Engineers configure details or take on redlining responsibilities with the team.
- RFI Referencing/Implementation: Reference RFIs on redlines as the final task before sending for QA review.
- Test Audits: Run and verify audits after project completion. Verify cable schedules, create audit packages, and coordinate retests with expected completion dates.
- Lessons Learned: Collaborate with engineers and QA to update the standardized lessons‑learned template throughout the build and finalize at project completion.
- Warranties: Gather warranty information, send required documents for processing, and coordinate with the team to obtain warranties.
- Product Submittals: Complete submittals immediately after RFP issuance. Match BOM with POs, obtain product sheets, and submit using the template.
- Labels: Print labels for installation teams before work begins, organize bins per area, and manage reprints via email with reasons.
- RFI Oversight: May act as the main engineer to oversee RFIs before submission, ensuring design feedback becomes lessons learned.
- Design (Shop Drawings): Oversee design work, verify areas of interest, submit into BIM
360, and maintain revisions and hyperlinks. - Areas of Focus: Infrastructure (grounding/bonding) and copper/fiber detail sheets.

- High skill level to interpret blueprints, specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
- Ability to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
- High School diploma or GED equivalency;
Bachelor's degree preferred. - 3–4 years of commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
- Meet company minimum driving standards.
- Manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to define a project, create a scope of work, develop detailed tasks, and manage to completion.
0–2 years. No license required.
Minimum education:
High School.
