Job DescriptionBASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY:
Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning.
- Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate.
- Ability to work well with children.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Some experience with children.
Duties & Responsibilities

Instructional Support- Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Help teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Follow district policies and procedures pertaining to the job assignment.
- Tools/Equipment Used:
Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]. - Posture:
Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. - Motion:
Frequent walking. - Lifting:
Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. - Environment:
Work inside, may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); regular exposure to noise. - Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. - Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.
