ELA Instructional Specialist (Central Office - Grades 6-12) - Bastrop, TX

Position Supervision: This role reports to the Chief Academic Officer, Lars Nelson

Position Location: This position is a Central Office-based role that supports our campuses in San Antonio, Manor, and Bastrop, TX. Please expect to work with other district and campus staff across different schools across both regions. This role is an ideal opportunity for leaders who are interested in stepping into state-level work while remaining deeply grounded in day-to-day classroom instruction—directly coaching, co-teaching, and collaborating with teachers and school leaders to drive impact where it matters most.

YOU HAVE
  • Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university (required)
  • Experience as a highly effective K-12 Math or ELA teacher, as measured by student achievement. (required)
  • ELA Curriculum:
    Deep knowledge of Amplify and McGraw-Hill Study Sync (Highly preferred)
  • Experience as a highly effective school leader (Minimum Assistant Principal experience highly preferred)
  • High expectations and a sense of possibility for the achievement of all students
  • High expectations for new teachers and a sense of possibility that new teachers can lead students to achieve trajectory-changing outcomes.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Varies based on experience ranging from $71,000 - $87,000

YOUR MISSION

Redefine what’s possible in public education. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that our ELA & Humanities program leads all Compass Rose students to establish a strong foundation as students which sets the table for their long-term academic and personal success. To this end, you will build teacher and leader capacity while supporting the implementation of our ELA & Humanities program, curriculum implementation, and teacher development.

You will partner with leaders & teachers to ensure all Compass Rose schools in San Antonio have thriving ELA & Humanities programs. Your effectiveness in this role will be measured by multiple inputs, with a focus on measurable student outcomes across Compass Rose schools.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum Resource Management

  • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction to design key instructional planning materials for ELA & Humanities teachers (i.e. Year long plan, planning guides, curriculum maps, scope and sequence documents, ‘Look fors,’ assessments, etc.)
  • Serve as an adviser to ELA & Humanities teachers and school leaders in the implementation of Network-adopted ELA & Humanities curricula and special ELA programs, and in the evaluation and selection of supplemental teaching materials.
  • Stay abreast of developments in ELA & Humanities education curriculum and instruction, and provide leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the Network’s instructional program.
  • Coordinate, implements and oversees various other special programs, events, and projects, either related to ELA education or to other instructional/administrative functions of the Network as assigned.
  • Strategically plan with the Student Support Services team to ensure that the diverse instructional needs of students are met in the Network’s ELA instruction program.
  • Attend and participate in curriculum and instructional technology planning team meetings.
  • Perform routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data.

Professional Development

  • Share effective instructional strategies with teachers both individually and through in-service workshops.
  • Co-teach or visit teachers in schools to model lesson instruction; observe teachers in the classroom as scheduled and/or as requested by principals.
