ELA Specialist - Grades 6-12 (Central Office)
Reporting to: Lars Nelson, Chief Academics Officer
Please Note: This Secondary ELA Academic Specialist role sits on our District Academics Team and directly supports 6-12 ELA programming using the Amplify and McGraw Hill Study Sync ELA curriculum. We are seeking a dynamic contributor in the San Antonio or Austin area to travel across our schools in Manor, Bastrop, and San Antonio, TX. This role allows flexibility to work from campus 3-4 days per week and the other 1-2 days from home or the network office in San Antonio, TX.
YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (required)
- Experience as a highly effective 6-12 ELA teacher, as measured by student achievement. (required)
- Experience as a highly effective 6-12 ELA coach or school leader (Assistant Principal experience highly preferred)
- Curriculum:
Deep knowledge of Amplify and McGraw Hill Study Sync (Highly preferred) - High expectations and a sense of possibility for the achievement of all students
- High expectations for new teachers and a sense of possibility that new teachers can lead students to achieve trajectory‑changing outcomes.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

- Competitive salary based upon credentials and experience $71,000 - $87,000

YOUR MISSION
As a Secondary ELA Academic Specialist, your mission is to redefine what’s possible in public education by ensuring that Compass Rose students build a strong academic foundation that paves the way for long‑term success. You will play a critical role in strengthening our 6–12 ELA programs by building teacher and leader capacity, supporting curriculum implementation, and driving instructional excellence. In close partnership with school leaders and educators, you will help ensure that every Compass Rose campus in San Antonio delivers high‑quality, equitable ELA instruction.
Your success in this role will be measured by multiple indicators, with a central focus on improving student achievement across the network.
Curriculum Resource Management (30%)
- Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction to design key instructional planning materials for ELA & Humanities teachers (i.e. Year long plan, planning guides, curriculum maps, scope and sequence documents, ‘Look fors,’ assessments, etc.)
- Serve as an adviser to ELA & Humanities teachers and school leaders in the implementation of Network‑adopted ELA & Humanities curricula and special ELA programs, and in the evaluation and selection of supplemental teaching materials.
- Stay abreast of developments in ELA & Humanities education curriculum and instruction, and provide leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the Network’s instructional program.
- Coordinate, implements and oversees various other special programs, events, and projects, either related to ELA education or to other instructional/administrative functions of the Network as assigned.
- Strategically plan with the Student Support Services team to ensure that the diverse instructional needs of students are met in the Network’s ELA instruction program.
- Attend and participate in curriculum and instructional technology planning team meetings.
- Perform routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data.
Professional Development and Instructional Coaching (40%)
- Share effective instructional strategies with teachers both individually and through in‑service workshops.
- Co‑teach or visit teachers in schools to model lesson instruction; observe teachers in the classroom as scheduled and/or as requested by principals.
