Wastewater Technician (Starlink PCB) at SpaceX

Space

X is developing a low latency, broadband internet system to meet the needs of consumers globally via the Starlink constellation. This role focuses on manufacturing output, yield, and process ownership in a high-volume PCB production environment. The position involves interacting with engineering teams and leadership to develop and validate equipment, processes, and technologies that impact product quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, security, and user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Execute startup and shutdown procedures for production equipment
  • Identify equipment and process deviations and perform corrective actions
  • Perform interventions to maintain process parameters (chemical analysis, additions, recipe changes, and machine adjustments)
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate process equipment (plating, etching, stripping, developing, surface treatment, and cleaning)
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to create operating procedures
  • Maintain a mature hardware inventory system with procurement of critical spares
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for yield, performance, and cost
  • Track preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment and instruments
  • Perform dispositions and rework for nonconforming PCBs
  • Provide feedback on failure modes and support root cause analysis to improve yield
  • Train production personnel
  • Maintain inventory of consumables
  • Safely handle chemicals and related handling equipment
  • Collect, segregate, and transport waste to hazardous waste storage
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce cost and downtime and increase yield
  • Read, interpret, and follow technical documents such as manufacturing work instructions
  • Uphold 5S standards and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Perform other related duties to ensure an efficient work environment

Basic Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalency
  • 2+ years of hands-on technical experience OR an associate’s degree in a STEM field

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • 2+ years of PCB, engineering laminates, electrochemical processes, or microelectronics fabrication experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or wet lab
  • Experience with process parameters for temperature, pressure, flow, and power
  • Ability to read P& schematic wiring diagrams
  • Experience with mechanical equipment and systems requiring isolation, disassembly, and repair/replacement of bearings and gears
  • Experience with lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, hot work permitting
  • Experience handling hazardous chemicals
  • Experience with MES/ERP or production/inventory management software
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized
  • Ability to adapt to changing roles in a high-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Current or past IPC-A-600, IPC-6012 or equivalent certification

Additional Requirements

  • Must be open to all shifts, overtime, and/or weekends as needed
  • Work schedule may evolve due to production line bring-up
  • Initial shift: 5 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Thursday; final schedules may include A, B, C, D shifts with staggered days
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods
  • Must be comfortable working with hazardous chemicals (acids, alkalis, solvents) in a production environment
  • Must wear appropriate PPE for lab and electro-chemical manufacturing
  • Must be comfortable climbing ladders, grasping, lifting, bending, and maneuvering in tight spaces
