Position: Senior Executive, Commercial (Lead Estimator)

Job Summary

As an Senior Executive, Commercial (Lead Estimator) is responsible for leading the estimating function for ship repair projects by preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates and tenders. The role ensures that all repair scopes, variations, and risks are properly evaluated, priced, and aligned with shipyard capabilities, commercial strategy, and profitability objectives. The Lead Estimator also provides technical and commercial guidance to the estimation team and supports management in bid strategy and tender negotiations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimation Leadership & Coordination
    • Lead and coordinate the estimating team in preparing cost estimates and tenders for ship repair projects, including dry docking, afloat repairs, and emergency repairs.
    • Allocate estimation tasks, review calculations, and ensure consistency and accuracy across all cost submissions.
    • Develop estimating strategies and methodologies aligned with shipyard standards and market conditions.
  • Cost Estimation & Analysis
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, subcontracting, equipment, docking services, logistics, and specialist marine services.
    • Analyze technical specifications, drawings, inspection reports, class requirements, and repair lists to determine accurate scope and quantities.
    • Evaluate risks, contingencies, and allowances associated with ship repair uncertainties.
    • Ensure estimates reflect realistic productivity rates, resource availability, and repair durations.
  • Tender Preparation & Submission
    • Prepare complete commercial proposals, bid summaries, and pricing schedules for tenders and quotations.
    • Coordinate with engineering, planning, procurement, and production departments to ensure technical and operational alignment.
    • Review and approve final tender submissions prior to management approval.
    • Participate in tender reviews, bid clarification meetings, and negotiations with ship owners, superintendents, and classification societies.
  • Contractor & Supplier Pricing
    • Identify and evaluate subcontractors, vendors, and specialist service providers required for ship repair works.
    • Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
    • Prepare bid comparison analyses and recommend cost-effective solutions.
    • Support procurement in finalizing commercial terms with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Variation & Change Management
    • Prepare estimates and pricing for additional works, repair growth, and scope changes identified during the repair period.
    • Support commercial and invoicing teams in evaluating variations and final accounts.
    • Maintain cost databases and historical pricing for future estimating reference.
  • Commercial Risk & Profitability Control
    • Identify commercial risks, cost drivers, and margin impacts during the estimating stage.
    • Recommend mitigation measures and pricing strategies to protect project profitability.
    • Support forecasting of final project costs and contribution margins.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Prepare estimation reports, cost breakdowns, and tender evaluation summaries for management review.
    • Maintain accurate records of estimates, assumptions, exclusions, and pricing methodologies.
    • Ensure compliance with shipyard policies, contractual requirements, and audit standards.
  • Team Development & Continuous Improvement
    • Mentor and train junior estimators in ship repair estimating techniques and commercial best practices.
    • Develop and improve estimating tools, templates, and cost databases.

      Promote continuous improvement in estimating accuracy and efficiency.
Key Requirements
  • Education:

    Diploma Degree / Engineering Degree on Marine Engineering / Naval architecture
  • With 8-10 years Experiences in Shipyard / Fabrication Yard
  • Proven experience leading estimation teams and managing complex tenders
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and commercial/ERP systems
