Job Overview
The Senior Production Engineer uses best practices and knowledge to improve the production discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the production discipline. The Senior Production Engineer solves complex problems and uses their discipline‑specific knowledge to improve their products or services.
Responsibilities- Guide and ensure discipline production engineers understand the scope of work and project schedule.
- Review work packages and ensure they are issued based on the fabrication sequence and schedule.
- Develop a work pack index, set priorities and align with the project schedule.
- Ensure necessary documentation and compliance with procedural requirements throughout the project phases.
- Review material expediting reports and raise concerns to find mitigation and solutions for concerned parties (e.g., PMT, Project Engineer, Project SCM, etc.).
- Initiate site/technical queries to resolve fabrication/construction issues with the most effective solution.
- Provide field guidance as necessary and ensure compliance with project and company specifications.
- Attend production meetings and report concerns.
- Identify any changes or additional work from the original scope and initiate change order as required.
- Monitor discipline‑level project fabrication progress within schedule and productivity within the targeted budget in coordination with the project fabrication coordinator.
- Responsible for developing a four‑week fabrication look‑ahead, including the prioritization of materials and drawings to suit the project schedule, and provide input to the fabrication coordinator or PMT for any project issues.
- Lead the discipline production engineering team, coordinating with stakeholders (e.g., detailing, construction engineer, material controllers, etc.) to meet project fabrication requirements.
- Establish a productive working relationship with project superintendents and supervisions to ensure meeting fabrication targets.
- Provide input for project constructability program effort for fabrication and lead constructability reviews on a discipline level, including resolution of construction problems with intra‑ and inter‑function interfaces and ensuring the work execution plan is based on the most productive option.
- Support the project fabrication coordinator to manage intra‑ and inter‑functional interfaces and project reporting requirements such as AFC estimate review, sub‑contractor coordination, project status reporting, developing fabrication sequence, conducting constructability reviews, etc.
- Supervise discipline production engineers and ensure optimal utilization of production engineer resources, including identification of production engineer resource needs for the project and communication of these regularly to the fabrication coordinator.
- Develop and mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and knowledge development.
- Bachelor’s degree S1/D4 in the following fields:
- Structural discipline:
Civil Engineering (steel construction), Ocean/Offshore Engineering, Shipbuilding/Naval Engineering. - Piping discipline:
Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, Shipbuilding/Marine Engineering. - Mechanical discipline:
Mechanical Engineering. - Electrical & Instrumentation:
Electrical Engineering, Physics Engineering/Marine Engineering. - Coating discipline:
Material/Metallurgical Engineering or a typical engineering bachelor’s degree with knowledge of painting/coating subjects may be preferred. - Minimum six (6) years of experience in oil & gas and/or renewable energy fabrication and construction projects in major contractor or consultant environments.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of oil & gas onshore/offshore construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards and best practices related to production processes and facilities project execution.
- Relevant training and/or certifications in project execution.
- Proven experience in the EPCI industry or a similar engineering field.
- Proven track record in leading teams and managing large‑scale projects.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to address complex technical challenges.
- Understanding of the strategy to deliver discipline‑level fabrication efforts for complex projects, with multinational project teams and customers.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
