About the Role
Day One is looking for a Business Development Manager specialising in water infrastructure and treatment to support our data center developments in Batam.
What You’ll DoBuild the Water StrategyDevelop and execute water‑supply strategies for Day One’s existing and potential data center sites in Batam. Lead water‑readiness planning for two potential development sites. Assess water availability, capacity, quality, reliability, redundancy, treatment requirements, infrastructure constraints, costs and delivery timelines. Identify opportunities to improve water capacity, quality, reliability and delivery for the existing Kabil facility. Evaluate municipal, industrial park, treated‑water, recycled‑water and other alternative supply solutions.
Prepare commercial recommendations and business cases to support site selection, investment and development decisions.
Lead engagement and negotiations with SPAM, local water authorities, industrial park operators, government bodies and infrastructure providers. Build and maintain relationships with EPC contractors, consultants, treatment‑plant operators and strategic partners. Coordinate water‑supply applications, feasibility assessments, technical submissions, approvals, agreements and relevant permits. Represent Day One in discussions involving water capacity, quality, treatment, infrastructure development and commercial terms. Monitor regulatory, tariff, environmental and infrastructure developments that may affect Day One’s projects.
SupportWater‑Treatment Solutions
Coordinate feasibility studies and technical assessments for new or upgraded water infrastructure. Evaluate treatment technologies and delivery models based on capacity, water quality, cost, sustainability and operational requirements. Support the selection and management of EPC contractors, consultants, treatment‑plant operators and other delivery partners. Identify opportunities involving water efficiency, recycling and sustainable water management.
Deliver Across TeamsWork closely with Development, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Finance, Legal and Commercial teams. Translate technical water requirements into clear commercial strategies and management recommendations. Coordinate due diligence, feasibility studies, infrastructure assessments and implementation plans. Track milestones, budgets, risks, dependencies and stakeholder commitments. Support commercial negotiations and contract development with water providers and project partners. Escalate issues that may affect project timelines or water readiness.
Requirements- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in business development, project development, water utilities, environmental infrastructure or resource planning.
- At least 5 years of direct experience in water supply, large‑scale water‑treatment plants, wastewater treatment, industrial water infrastructure or water‑distribution systems.
- Demonstrated experience delivering or supporting water‑infrastructure projects in Indonesia.
- Experience working with SPAM, local water authorities, industrial parks, EPC contractors or major infrastructure providers.
- Practical knowledge of water‑capacity planning, quality requirements, treatment systems, utility agreements, permitting and project‑delivery processes.
- Experience supporting major water‑treatment projects for industrial parks, manufacturing facilities or other large‑scale developments.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to evaluate cost, risk, schedule and long‑term project viability.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to translate technical information into clear business recommendations.
- Ability to work effectively across technical, commercial, financial, legal and operational teams.
- Professional proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
- Willingness to be based in Batam and travel as required.
- Data center experience in Indonesia.
- Experience developing water solutions for large industrial or mission‑critical facilities.
- Experience working with EPC contractors on major water‑treatment projects.
- Knowledge of recycled water, wastewater treatment and sustainable water‑management solutions.
- Existing relationships with SPAM, Batam‑based authorities, industrial park operators or water‑infrastructure providers.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental or chemical engineering, infrastructure, business, finance or a related discipline.
