Security Officer (Evening Shift) – Fermilab
Pay range: $23.80–$23.80 per hour. Pay is a general guideline and the actual offer will depend on qualifications and other factors.

About the Role
- Under general supervision from the Security Lieutenant, provide customer service and carry out safety and security procedures for the laboratory on a 24/7 schedule.
- Work the evening shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., with occasional short‑notice adjustments.
- Patrol property on foot and/or vehicle; secure personnel, assets, buildings, gates, and perimeter.
- Guard site access points, permit or refuse entry according to Fermilab Site Access policy, Post Orders, Policies & Procedures, perform vehicle inspections, issue passes and greet personnel politely.
- Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls following established procedures and policies.
- Complete case reports on property loss, damage, personnel incidents, vehicle accidents, etc.
- Communicate with the Security Operations Center and/or security staff via two‑way radio or telephone.
- Maintain activity reports and patrol round assignments as directed.
- Keep informed of current Fermi Security and Fire Department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Comply with DOE directives and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
- Conduct equipment and vehicle checks; report deficiencies to supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices relevant to the position.
Essential Competencies and Attributes
- High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum 1+ year of relevant experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- 20‑hour Basic Security Training certificate and IL PERC card.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Employment contingent on successful completion of pre‑employment drug, psychological and medical testing.
Applicable Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Use of two‑way public safety radios; strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office) and report writing.

- Onsite; candidate must work from the Batavia office.
