We’re looking for an Event Safety & Planning Advisor to join a small team based within our operational planning team.

In conjunction with event industry partners you'll be responsible for advising those that are planning the events, and providing guidance to various events including sporting, festivals, car shows, music, firework displays and farmers markets.

You’ll join a highly motivated team dedicated to supporting colleagues and partners with delivering safe and secure events within our communities, building the trust and confidence of the public.

Location - Somerset based.

The role:

The role will be responsible for supporting those in their planning of public events, engaging with partners, stakeholders and agencies.

You will be responsible for leading the safety and security aspects of event planning, representing the force at key event planning meetings, building relationships, and managing expectations regarding the police role in these events.

You will liaise and advise internal Police Command Teams, Force Lead Coordinators and event organisers on policy and provide guidance on behalf of the Constabulary.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Representing the Police at Safety Advisory Groups, site meetings and multi-agency meetings providing advice in relation to core policing responsibilities
  • Reviewing Event Management Plans and other event supporting documents, offering advice and guidance to event organisers and the wider policing family.
  • Building good working relationships with external partners when assessing and reviewing organised events.
  • Representing the force at meetings with stakeholders and manage expectations regarding the role of Police, to enable the successful delivery of event planning guidance and support
  • Keeping abreast of developing legislation or regulations in respect of local events
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
  • Relevant experience in events planning
  • A natural communicator and ability to build and maintain working relationships with internal staff and externally with multi-agencies
  • Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Experience of following policy and/or procedure
  • Computer literate
  • It would desirable for the successful candidate to hold a full current driving licence and be prepared to travel within the Avon and Somerset force area

Additional Information:

Candidates who successfully pass shortlisting will be invited to attend interview on Wednesday, 7th October 2026.

This role is working from your home address and the office, details of the office location can be discussed at interview but must be within Somerset. We will support you to work flexibly from home, whilst meeting onsite occasionally and other locations across the force area when required.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will occasionally be required to work outside of standard office hours, including evenings and weekends, to support operational requirements and events.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
