Permanent contract, 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Purpose of the Role - Lead and develop Bath College’s cross-college examinations and assessment function so that all internal and external assessments (including GCSEs taken at the College, VTQs, Functional Skills, controlled assessments and T Level assessments) are planned, administered and quality-assured in full compliance with JCQ, awarding organisation and Ofqual requirements, delivering an excellent, safe and equitable experience for learners and staff.

Special conditions - Have the availability to work flexibly during peaks (including early mornings, evenings, results days and some weekends); onsite presence required for inspections and critical exam events.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic leadership & service management

  • Own the end-to-end examinations and assessment service across all sites, establishing an annual exams cycle, service standards and KPIs; provide regular assurance reports to the Assistant Principal – Student Experience and SLT.
  • Line-manage the Exams Team (including recruitment, induction, objective setting, appraisal and CPD); build and maintain a trained bank of invigilators appropriate to seasonal demand.
  • Maintain and continuously improve exams policies, procedures and handbooks, reflecting updates from JCQ/awarding organisations and Ofqual guidance; lead change management and communications.

Compliance, integrity & learner equity

  • Ensure the centre’s full compliance with JCQ Instructions for Conducting Examinations (ICE), JCQ General Regulations for Approved Centres, and awarding-body rules for exam administration, non-examined/controlled assessment and external assessment.
  • Oversee Access Arrangements and Special Consideration processes with ALS/SEND leads, ensuring decisions are evidence-based and align to JCQ and current regulatory guidance.
  • Act as secure materials “Exams Officer” lead for receipt, storage and dispatch of exam materials/scripts; manage incident response and malpractice investigations in line with JCQ procedures.
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Educated to Level 3 (minimum); degree and/or relevant professional certification desirable.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD; willingness to undertake JCQ/awarding body training. (Sector-standard expectations)
  • Significant experience managing examinations/assessments in an FE/school or awarding-body context, including line management and multi-site delivery.
  • Demonstrable track record of compliance with JCQ/awarding-body requirements, including access arrangements and secure materials handling.
