Overview

SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism & Speech and Language Needs (Primary School) Bath, Somerset | On-site £14.25 per hour (£90–£100 per day, pro rata) Full-time | Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm | Term-time only start date: ASAP or June, with long-term opportunities into September. This school is in a rural area on the outskirts of Bath and driving is required or access to a car.

About the role

You’ll work closely with pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, supporting both learning and communication development.

Key responsibilities
  • Support pupils with autism and speech and language needs in the classroom
  • Use communication strategies such as visual supports, PECS, or Makaton (training provided)
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored support
  • Help pupils develop social skills, communication, and independence
  • Provide calm, consistent support to help regulate emotions and behaviour
  • Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs

You’ll build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, helping them communicate more effectively, engage in learning, and make meaningful progress both academically and socially.

Essential requirements

  • Ability to work full-time, term-time
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Experience with autism (ASC) and/or SLCN
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication tools
  • Background in care, support work, or SEN settings
