Location: Bath, Radstock, Frome and surrounding areas
Pay: £93-110 per day PAYE

Connex Education Partnership is looking for patient, compassionate and dedicated Sensory Needs Teaching Assistants to work across primary schools within the Bath & Wells Multi-Academy Trust and surrounding areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and experienced childcare or education professionals who are passionate about supporting children with sensory processing needs and additional needs.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are available full-time, although part-time applicants are encouraged to apply and will be considered depending on school requirements.

The Role

As a Sensory Needs Teaching Assistant, you will provide individualised support to help pupils feel safe, regulated and able to access their learning.

You may work on a 1:1 basis, within small groups or as part of a wider classroom team, depending on the needs of the pupils and the school.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with sensory processing needs
  • Helping pupils manage sensory overload and become more regulated throughout the school day
  • Supporting children to access learning and participate in classroom activities
  • Implementing strategies and recommendations from teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
  • Using appropriate sensory resources and activities to support individual pupils
  • Supporting children with communication, interaction and social development
  • Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and emotional regulation
  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment
  • Recognising when pupils may be becoming overwhelmed and responding appropriately
  • Supporting positive behaviour using consistent and nurturing approaches
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider school team to meet individual needs
The Pupils

You may be supporting children with a range of additional needs, which could include:

  • Sensory processing difficulties
  • Autism / ASC
  • ADHD
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Moderate or severe learning difficulties
  • Complex learning needs
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Physical or sensory impairments
  • Communication and interaction difficulties
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working in a school, nursery, childcare, education or support setting
  • Ideally have experience supporting children with SEN or sensory needs
  • Be patient, calm and compassionate
  • Have a good understanding of children’s individual needs and behaviours
  • Be confident providing both individual and classroom-based support
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be adaptable and able to respond to changing situations
  • Be committed to helping children develop their independence and confidence
  • Be willing to learn and implement individual sensory strategies and approaches

Full-time availability is preferred, however, part-time applicants are encouraged to apply and will be considered.
