Sister/Charge Nurse – Intensive Care Unit

Are you ready to make a real difference every day? We're looking for a passionate and proactive nurse to work clinically within the multidisciplinary team, maintaining high standards of practice while supporting staff shift‑by‑shift and providing clinical leadership and decision making. You will provide effective clinical leadership and management of the team in the Intensive Care Unit and demonstrate the ability to manage your time by prioritising and organising work.

You must demonstrate current personal development, have a good understanding and involvement in improving patient safety, risk reduction and development of others, and provide general support for peers, junior and senior colleagues.

You will work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients, and take responsibility for:

  • The assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for critically ill adults in your care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Using specialist knowledge obtained through relevant post‑registration courses in caring for critically ill adults.
  • Maintaining a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
  • Developing leadership skills and experience in the management within the Intensive Care Unit.
  • Promoting and participating in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy.
  • Developing and implementing audit, quality and risk‑management initiatives.
  • Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research and best practice.
  • Participating in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate, and teaching, facilitating and mentoring nursing or non‑nursing staff.
  • Being designated to manage the Intensive Care Unit and/or acting as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility, developing leadership skills and experience in the management of the ward/department.
