Are you a highly skilled and experienced nurse with expertise in safeguarding? We are seeking an exceptional individual to undertake the role of Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Young People, supporting the delivery of high-quality safeguarding practice across the Trust on a fixed-term or secondment basis.
The post holder will provide expert leadership, advice and support on all aspects of safeguarding children, ensuring the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities in line with current national legislation and guidance. Promoting a child-centred, whole-family approach, the role is central to embedding high-quality safeguarding practice across the organisation.
Working in partnership with the Named Doctor, Named Midwife, Associate Director for Vulnerable People, and external safeguarding partners, the post holder will lead and coordinate safeguarding activity across the Trust and contribute to effective multi-agency safeguarding arrangements.
Acting as a professional role model, the successful candidate will demonstrate expert clinical practice, leadership, education and governance, supporting staff to respond effectively to safeguarding concerns and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care for children and young people.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide expert leadership, advice and support on safeguarding children and young people across the Trust.
Key responsibilities include acting as a safeguarding expert in partnership with the Named Doctor and Named Midwife, providing specialist advice to staff on safeguarding concerns, risk assessment and complex case management. The post holder will support and deliver safeguarding supervision, promoting safe and consistent practice, and embed current safeguarding priorities including contextual safeguarding, exploitation, domestic abuse and online harms.
The role will provide professional leadership, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and national guidance, and contribute to multi-agency safeguarding arrangements, investigations and reviews, including Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and Rapid Reviews. The post holder will represent the Trust at safeguarding partnership forums and contribute to system-wide learning.
They will support organisational assurance through reporting to the Trust Board and commissioners, including the Safeguarding Children Annual Report, and lead safeguarding training programmes, ensuring staff meet required competencies and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
The post holder will monitor safeguarding systems, lead audits, support CQC compliance and ensure learning is embedded. They will maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and ongoing professional development.
Person specification Qualifications & Training- Registered Nurse with current valid NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
- Clinical Supervisory Qualification
- Extensive experience in safeguarding children at a senior level (equivalent to NHS Band
7) - Expert knowledge of safeguarding legislation and national guidance
