• Work alongside clients, engineers, program managers, operators, trainers and safety leads to embed Human Factors in design, integration and operations, focusing on how people use systems in variable, complex, pressed environments.
• Lead and grow BMT’s Human Factors capability, mentoring others, building team strength and embedding good practice across defence, consulting, research and engineering design programmes.
• Guide clients and internal teams to understand how people affect, and are affected by, the systems we deliver—including when things don’t go to plan.
• Bring Human Factors to life in practical terms: improve workflows, human‑machine interfaces and the physical and cognitive environments in which people work.
• Contribute to the evolution of our Human Factors offering, shaping our approach to autonomy, complex system design, safety assurance and human‑machine teaming across domains.

You’re already a Chartered Human Factors / Ergonomics Specialist (or equivalent) with a strong track record of applying Human Factors methods to real–world systems. Your value goes beyond methods—you think and collaborate, influencing colleagues to deliver high‑quality user‑centric services.

• Grounded in people: you focus on decision‑makers, operators under pressure, those recovering from the unexpected and adapting when plans fail. You design for their success, not just to avoid failure.
• Confident in complexity: you understand how design, process, information and responsibility interact. You work across system boundaries and communicate clearly with engineers, project teams, safety leads, operators and decision‑makers.
• Trusted to bring clarity: you ask the right questions, cut through noise and help teams see what really matters, remaining calm where others are not and bringing structure where confusion is found.
• Influential without being loud: you build trust by helping people do their job better, whether they are building a system, using it or making the call that shapes its future.
• A builder of capability: you help others understand and apply Human Factors, grow confidence in the discipline and leave systems and teams stronger than you found them.
• Adaptable and pragmatic: you know when to push for excellence and when to deliver what’s needed, and you’re comfortable across design reviews, field trials, research projects and strategic planning.
