Job Description & How to Apply Below

Listed by University of Bath - Faculty of Humanities and Social Science

Applying Details About  the role

To be considered for this role, you must be an undergraduate student in your placement/study abroad year, studying a course within one of the following departments in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS):

  • Department of Economics
  • Department of Education
  • Department of Politics, Languages & International Studies
  • Department of Social & Policy Sciences
  • Department of Psychology
  • Department for Health

We are looking to recruit several students going on placement/study abroad to produce a range of content aimed at prospective applicants and current students, giving an insight into various aspects of the placements experience.

You will have the option to write about your experience as a blog (which you will post on the HSS Placements and Student Blog), as a social media video reel (that the University will use in our comms), or both.

Themes for a blog post or video reel could include:

  • what it is like to live in a different city/country (if applicable)
  • the experience of a professional workplace
  • social aspects of doing a professional placement/year abroad
  • tips on making the most of the experience
  • why you chose a placement/study abroad course
  • skills you’ve gained and lessons you have learned

The content you produce may be used on the university website, social media platforms, including Linked In,Instagram and Facebook, and in printed materials. You will need to consent to your content being used on the platforms.

While you will be required to work towards rough deadlines, you will be given flexibility to organise your work independently. These roles are available to start immediately, or at the same time as your placement year.

This role is a great way to gain some work experience with marketing and communications, and to enhance yourCV. Reflecting on what you’ve achieved and learned is also a useful exercise no matter what type of work you’relooking to go into.

Blog only

If you would like to share your placement/study abroad experience as a blog, then you will be expected to submit a minimum of four blog posts during your placement year at Bath (request permission for further posts thereafter). Each post should take around 2.5 hours to produce.

Alternatively, you can talk about your placement/study abroad as a video reel for social media. You must film and edit a minimum of three video reels, each one being 1-2 minutes in duration. Additional guidance and training will be provided to help you produce your video reels. Each video should take around 2.5 hours to produce.

You have the option to do both a blog and video reel about your placement/study abroad if you wish. In this case, we would expect you to produce at minimum three blog posts and one video reel
. Each piece of content should take around 2.5 hours to produce.

What we are looking for

You should be enthusiastic about your placement/study abroad experience as a Bath student and be able to produce a range of engaging content. You will need to be able to organise your time effectively to make sure you can produce your content around your work commitments.

An ability to offer an alternative or unique perspective on your placement experience would be a plus, as would any previous/current experience of social media, blogging or content creation.
You may already be a keen content producer for your own accounts and have experience creating engaging videos/social media content, or you may want to get some experience in this area as you know you have the creative skills.

The deadline for applying is 14 August 2026.

If offered the role, those with UK citizenship will need to register in person on campus to do the necessary HR checks (if not already on the HR payment system) before starting your placement. International students can be processed online.

IMPORTANT:
Consent from Placement Provider required

As a matter of priority, you must ensure that your placement provider consents to you keeping a placement blog and/or producing video reels (especially if you plan to film at your place of work). If they do not consent to this, you cannot take up this role.

We suggest you request this as soon as possible, ideally even before applying for this position. A clear consent email from your employer is sufficient.
