Job Overview

The Digital Practitioner plays a key role in supporting the safe and effective use of digital systems across clinical services at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. Working as part of the Digital Clinical Team, the post holder provides profession‑specific expertise (nursing, midwifery or allied health) to the design, implementation, optimisation and adoption of digital systems, including the Electronic Patient Record.

The role acts as a bridge between frontline clinical teams and digital colleagues, ensuring that digital solutions support safe, effective and efficient clinical practice, improve data quality, and enhance patient and staff experience. Post holders will support engagement, training and digital confidence within their professional group, contribute to service improvement and quality initiatives, and play an important role in organisational readiness for major digital change.

These are fixed‑term, part‑time development opportunities, designed to build future digital capability and support succession planning within nursing, midwifery and AHP professions.

Prior formal digital roles are not required; the Trust welcomes applications from clinicians with an interest in digital practice and a willingness to develop further.

• Act as a profession‑specific Digital Practitioner (nursing, midwifery or AHP), providing clinical expertise to the design, implementation and optimisation of digital systems, including the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
• Act as a key link between frontline clinical teams and digital colleagues, ensuring digital solutions support safe, effective and efficient clinical workflows.
• Support staff engagement, training and confidence in the use of digital systems, including providing visible, on‑the‑ground support in clinical areas.
• Contribute to improving clinical documentation and data quality, working with services to identify issues and support safe, consistent practice.
• Support service improvement and change activity enabled by digital systems, including optimising workflows and embedding new ways of working.
• Identify, escalation and help resolve digital or data‑related issues through appropriate clinical and digital governance routes.
• Contribute to organisational readiness for major digital change, including preparation, deployment and stabilisation of new or evolving digital systems.
• Maintain professional registration and contribute to ongoing learning in digital transformation, clinical safety and quality improvement.
• Work collaboratively with clinical, digital and operational colleagues to ensure digital solutions reflect service needs and improve patient care.
• Contribute to the review and redesign of clinical processes, challenging historic ways of working where appropriate.
• Contribute to benefits realisation by helping services understand and adopt digital change.
• Apply quality improvement approaches to support digital optimisation and service improvement.
• Contribute to project reporting, risk management and assurance activity as required.
• Support staff to develop confidence and competence in the use of digital systems, including electronic patient records and associated digital tools.
• Identify digital training needs and support the delivery of appropriate training and guidance.
• Provide visible, accessible support to staff in clinical areas, offering coaching and guidance to improve digital documentation and data quality.
• Support the development of super‑users or digital champions.
• Maintain professional registration (NMC / HCPC) and ongoing continuing professional development.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of appropriate digital systems and emerging digital developments.
• Participate in learning activity related to digital transformation, clinical safety, data quality and service improvement.
• Experience using electronic patient record systems or other digital clinical systems in practice.
• Demonstrates digital confidence and literacy, with the ability to adapt to new systems and ways of working.
• Experience of supporting colleagues with changes to practice, systems or processes (e.g. training, coaching, informal support).
