Job overview

Staff Nurse
- General Surgery

As a Staff Nurse within the General Surgery team, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in accordance with the NMC Code and professional practice standards. Working as a named nurse or key worker for a designated group of patients, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised care, ensuring patients receive safe, effective, and compassionate treatment throughout their surgical journey.

You will actively participate in clinical supervision and support the learning and development of others by acting as a mentor, preceptor, facilitator, or positive role model for less experienced staff and student nurses. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic surgical team committed to delivering outstanding patient care and continuous professional development.

Main duties of the job
  • Act as a Named Nurse, maintaining accountability for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care within a team nursing framework.
  • Coordinate and facilitate timely, safe, and effective patient discharge planning in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-focused care, working collaboratively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support and educate patients, families, and carers to enhance understanding of health conditions, treatment plans, and recovery pathways.
  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices and provide information to help patients make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional patient records and documentation.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive ward environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical protocols, guidelines, and care pathways to ensure best practice.
  • Foster effective communication with patients, relatives, and colleagues to ensure excellent standards of care and teamwork.
  • Uphold patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
